The systems supporting the physical security of people and premises are ever increasing in import of complexity. As systems have become IP enabled, integration of systems through the network has also provided new opportunities and solutions in protecting people, assets, and property. As a system is only as good as its weakest link, BICSI 005 was developed to provide the requirement and recommendations of a structured cabling infrastructure that would support all types of security systems.
This current edition of BICSI 005 continues to bridge the two worlds of security and communications by providing the security professional the requirement and recommendations of a structured cabling infrastructure needed to support today’s security systems while providing the cabling design professional information on different elements within safety and security systems that affect the cabling infrastructure design.
Specific revisions and additions within BICSI 005-2016 include:
- Requirement and recommendations for IP fire alarm systems (Class N)
 - Updated ICT infrastructure requirements and recommendations to meet current code and ESS system needs
 - Integration of Infrastructure management
 - Commissioning
 - System training, operations and maintenance
 - Cloud based service models
